A beautiful Victoria 1936 teacup and saucer set. The cup and saucer are adorned with white and black crosses and scrolls with a bouquet of flowers inside the cup and center of the saucer. The saucer is scalloped and the cup has an hexagon-scalloped shape. The set isn't perfect and is in fair condition with no cracks, staining or crazing! The gold has some wear, mostly on the saucer and some light wear to the floral pattern. On the black and white pattern there is some wear with are some paint errors of small streaks or smudges. Hard to notice but worth mentioning. On the back of the saucer there is a glaze skip and a smooth chip or indent. I have circled both in the photos. This pretty teacup set is unusual, dainty and very old. It will make a great addition to anyone's collection or tea party.
About Victoria C & E- Aaron Edwards (AE) was born in Longton in 1832. He was co-founder in 1858 of the firm of Cartwright and Edwards. In 1868-9 they built the Borough Pottery in Longton, making use of machinery for nearly all processes. In the 19th century the firm produced most classes of earthenware and in the 20th century extended their range to bone china. Cartwright and Edwards also held the Victoria Pottery by 1912. Cartwright and Edwards became a subsidiary of Alfred Clough Ltd. and in 1955 both the Victoria and Borough Works were sold to the Manor Engineering Co. Ltd.
