Presenting an exquisite Victoria 1936 teacup and saucer set that encapsulates timeless elegance. The delicate white and black crosses, intertwined scrolls, and a central bouquet of flowers create a captivating visual. The saucer's scalloped edges and the cup's hexagon-scalloped shape enhance its unique charm. Despite minor imperfections, the set is in fair condition, devoid of cracks, staining, or crazing. The gilded accents, primarily on the saucer, exhibit slight wear, as does the floral pattern. Subtle paint discrepancies in the black and white motif, though inconspicuous, add a touch of character. Noteworthy are a glaze skip and a smooth chip on the saucer's back, both thoughtfully indicated in the provided photos.
This teacup set possesses an intriguing delicacy, a glimpse into the past's refinement. A splendid addition to any collection or an enchanting choice for a tea gathering.
Additional Information: Victoria C & E-Aaron Edwards (AE), born in Longton in 1832, co-founded the firm Cartwright and Edwards in 1858. The Borough Pottery in Longton was built by them in 1868-9, where advanced machinery was employed for numerous production processes. The company's range encompassed various earthenware categories in the 19th century, later extending to bone china in the 20th century. By 1912, Cartwright and Edwards held the Victoria Pottery as well. Subsequently, the company became a subsidiary of Alfred Clough Ltd. In 1955, both the Victoria and Borough Works were acquired by Manor Engineering Co. Ltd. This historical context adds to the allure of the teacup set.
